Whole Brain Teaching Master Class 2.0

Shout from the top of the hill, “THE MASTER CLASS 2.0 SERIES” is back each Monday night. What is the “Master Class 2.0 series”? This is a series of live webcast when Coach B presents the latest and greatest WBT techniques. During this live webcast you can ask Coach B questions or one of the WBT Certified Teachers (their names are usually in red on the instant messaging screen). Coach B and his helpers are always willing to share with you their wealth of WBT knowledge.

The live webcast is presented so you can see Coach B and the power point slides he is using. Each week Coach B focuses a different WBT topic that he presents to his audience of Wibbeteers. This topic is presented so the “Rookie”, “Pro”, or “All Star” teachers will learn more about the topic being presented.

You will not have to worry about taking notes during this live webcast because at the end of each webcast you can purchase the slides for a small fee.

If you need to find out more about the live webcast go to the:
Whole Brain Teaching website homepage for specific dates and times.

My Classroom – WBT Style

I have worked in my classroom the past two weeks getting ready for my 16 second grade students who will enter my class and the funtastic world of WBT tomorrow morning.  Here are some pictures of the classroom rules, the scoreboard, power pix board, Super Improver Team, The Genius Ladder, and The Brainies wall.

This is a picture of my Power Pix board. The board with the red border will be used for displaying math power pix. The board with blue border will be used for displaying Language Arts power pix.
This is a picture of my Super Improver Team. The circles on the left side of the SIT will have a student’s name written on it. As the students earn 10 stars, they will move to the next level and the color of their circle will change.  Each student will have a Super Improver booklet at their desk. In the booklet, I have a page for each level. Students can look back in their Super Improver booklet during the school year and have a visual of the super improvement they have made this year.

My beginning Brainies are posted on a bulletin board in the front of the class so all of my students can easily see them.

Here is my scoreboard (sorry about the glare, I think it is because of the items being laminated). The gold trophy located in the middle of the score board has Level 1 written on it. As I change out the different versions of the score board such as boys vs girls I will change the level on the trophy. Below the score board is the Wacky Star Fun button (I can't wait to use this tomorrow)!

The next 3 pictures are showing my class rules. They are located on the wall in the front of the class just above the super improver team, score board, and Genius Ladder.

Here is a picture of the Genius Ladder. I decided to write an example of each type of sentence using the bus for a visual.
Starting at the bottom of the ladder:
Blah Sentence
Article Noun Verb
A bus moved.
Spicy Sentence
Article Adjective Noun Verb
A yellow bus moved.
Extender Sentence
Article Adjective Noun Verb Extender
A yellow bus moved down the street on the first day of school.
Genius Sentence
Article Adjective Noun Verb Extender Adder
The yellow bus moved down the street on the first day of school. The students were dropped off at Holley Navarre Primary School.

WBT Motivational Bulletin Board!!!

As I began to reread the book, Whole Brain Teaching for Challenging Kids , I realized there were many quotes, analogies, and “ food for thought” I agreed with and wanted to remember. I decided to make a WBT motivational bulletin board to display some of the quotes and information to keep me motivated and focused on my students and their success.  I typed up the quotes, glued them on index cards, and attached them to my motivational bulletin board.

I have made a document with "food for thought" that I believed was important and was something I wanted to remember. You may print these off and use them or make your own WBT motivational bulletin board.

Whole Brain National Conference... Don't Stop that Train!!!

WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING . . . Oh, Yeah!!

Hello, my name is Jennifer Dantin, I am a second grade teacher in Florida. I have taught second grade for 10 years. My class mascot is a scuba "Diver", which is why I am excited to be "Diving into Whole Brain Teaching" as an intern for the 2014-2015 school year. I used many parts of Whole Brain Teaching in my class last school year. I am ready to fine tune my WBT teaching style and engage my students in "funtricity".

I hope to use this blog to share with others the implementation and use of WBT strategies in my classroom this year, as well as, general information about my class.

Some things I enjoy about teaching second grade:

* Students still thinking their teacher is cool!

* Making up silly songs (usually me trying to rap) to teach my students a new skill

* Singing and dancing with my students

I am ready to get this school year started . . . . WBT STYLE!!!!
